The Whispering Marsh: A Creative Approach to Wetland Conservation Education

Published on:

Wetlands International South Asia, in collaboration with Delhi Public School (DPS), Faridabad,
Haryana, has launched The Whispering Marsh, a comic book designed to make knowledge on the
importance of wetlands accessible and engaging for young readers. Through relatable characters,
adventure, and imagination, the comic book introduces young readers to the fascinating world of
wetlands, the diverse life they support, the benefits they provide, and the urgent need to conserve
wetlands for future generations.

The publication is the outcome of a 15-day internship programme undertaken by a group of more than
10 students from DPS, Faridabad, under the guidance of the Wetlands International South Asia team.
The programme introduced students to the ecological, social, and cultural importance of wetlands
while fostering an understanding of the threats to these invaluable ecosystems. The students gained a
deeper understanding of wetlands through guided learning sessions, research, and interactive
discussions and translated their learnings into an engaging narrative. The initiative underscores the
urgent need for wetland conservation while demonstrating how creative formats can effectively
communicate complex environmental concepts to the next generation.

The event was attended by students, teachers, parents, and representatives of Wetlands International South Asia.

The initiative forms part of the ongoing collaboration between the Wetlands Learning Centre at DPS, Faridabad, and Wetlands International South Asia to promote wetland awareness and experiential learning among young learners. Through such innovative educational initiatives, the partnership seeks to foster environmental stewardship, encourage creative engagement with conservation issues, and nurture a new generation of informed and responsible advocates for wetlands. The Whispering Marsh stands as a testament to the potential of youth-led communication in advancing awareness and appreciation of these invaluable ecosystems.
