Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Programme Associate. This is a full-time position for a duration of one year based in New Delhi at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
Job Purpose
The incumbent for this full-time position for a duration of one year based in New Delhi shall assist in the implementation of the Integrated Management of Wetland Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IMWBES) Project. The IMWBES Project is a Full-Scale, Global Environment Facility-funded project of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the United Nations Environment Programme as the GEF Agency. Wetlands International South Asia is the Lead Technical Support Agency (LTSA) of the project, providing technical backstopping to project implementation.
Roles and responsibilities
- Compile, collate, and review relevant literature to support project implementation under the guidance of the Project Director
- Contribute to the drafting of technical reports, papers, and policy briefs
- Support the planning and delivery of capacity-building and outreach programmes.
- Support the MoEFCC in coordinating and implementing the National Wetlands Programme
Essential Qualifications
- Masters degree in ecology, natural resources management, hydrology, water management, environmental sciences, environmental planning and related disciplines.
- At least two years’ experience in handling similar assignments.
- Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Proven technical writing skills in English, Hindi or other Vernacular languages
Desirable qualifications
- Experience in survey and assessment of wetlands.
- Understanding of GIS and mapping tools.
- Understanding of the existing policy environment and regulations on wetlands.
Remuneration
The incumbent will be placed in Grade 3 of salary scale, with an annual gross remuneration of Rs. 7.0 lakhs with all perks.

Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Technical Officer – Remote Sensing and GIS. This is a full-time position based in New Delhi.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical inputs and decision-making support across various projects implemented by the organisation. The primary function of this role is to apply state-of-the-art remote sensing and GIS knowledge and tools techniques for wetland inventory, mapping and ecological assessment, while also developing training and outreach programmes within the South Asia Regional Strategy framework. This position involves substantial responsibility for spatial modelling and technical decision-making within project implementation. Geospatial analysis is the dominant portion of the job duties envisioned for this position, but will be balanced with a variety of cartography, field work, research and development.
Roles and responsibilities
- Lead remote sensing and GIS work across the organisation, providing technical support as needed.
- Lead the delineation and spatial modelling of wetlands and landscapes to support defined management outcomes
- Coordinate ecological assessments for priority wetland and landscapes
- Draft technical reports, scientific papers, and policy briefs as required
- Design capacity development programmes on remote sensing and GIS tools for wetland managers and stakeholders
- Represent the organization at various meetings and forums
- Support communication and outreach on issues related to wetlands conservation and wise use
- Supervise and mentor junior GIS staff, interns, or field teams as required
- Any other task assigned by the Director, in consultation with the employee
Essential Qualifications
- Master’s in Remote Sensing and GIS / Geography / Environmental Sciences or related disciplines with demonstrated capabilities in GIS
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience in a similar domain
- Demonstrated ability to analyse remote sensing and/or environmental data
- Experience in spatial data analysis, remote sensing and GIS and working with image analysis software (ArcMap and ArcPro, Erdas Imagine, QGIS, Google Earth Engine etc.)
- Experience in conducting field assessments, literature review and data analysis for preparing technical reports
- Proven technical writing skills in English and Hindi
Desirable qualifications
- Understanding of aquatic ecology
- Experience of working on wetlands, with a focus on aspects such as aquatic ecology, hydrology, limnology, pedology, socio-economic, and policy for conservation and management
- Experience in using R, Python, ModelBuilder, or other common GIS scripting languages is desirable
- Experience in using statistical packages for data analysis and data analysis on MS Excel and literature review for the preparation of technical reports
- Proficiency in handling and processing high-resolution satellite imagery datasets
- A proactive and innovative approach, with a keen interest in developing new solutions to address technical and landscape management challenges
Remuneration
The incumbent will be placed in Grade 4 of the salary scale, with an annual gross remuneration of Rs. 8.5 lakhs with all perks.
