February 2nd of each year is observed as World Wetlands Day globally to mark the day of adopting the Ramsar Convention for Conservation and Management of Wetlands in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar, where it was adopted as an international treaty for conserving wetlands.
To mark the occasion, Wetlands International South Asia will be organising a public event on February 2nd, 2025, at the India International Center in New Delhi. Dr Jairam Ramesh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Former Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, will be the Chief Guest of this function. A panel discussion with eminent environment conservation experts and practitioners is also being organised to chart out pathways for integrating wetlands in sustainable development plans and programmes at various levels.
