Sucheon City (a city of thousand cranes) hosts the Ramsar Regional Center East Asia, a Ramsar Regional Initiative to promote implementation of Ramsar Convention in East, South-East and South Asian region. Wetlands International South Asia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on building capacity for wetlands managers in the region.
Under the framework of the MoU, Wetlands International South Asia supported the visit of a delegation from Suncheon City (led by Mayor Kim Byeong-Ju) to Chilika during November 4-6, 2019. The visit aimed at exchanging learnings and experience from wetlands restoration in a complex socioeconomic setting. Mr. Kim Byeong-Ju met Mr Susanta Nanda, Chief Executive, Chilika Development Authority and visited the Wetlands Research and Training Center.
