The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change organized a workshop on ‘Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) for Indian Wetlands’ in collaboration with Wetlands International South Asia and GIZ from October 24 to 25, 2024, in Delhi.
The METT workshop aimed to familiarise the Ramsar Site managers from Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand with the application of ‘METT for Indian Wetlands’ for adaptive management planning.
The workshop, attended by 38 participants, provided a comprehensive introduction to METT and its implementation process. A case study on Pong Dam Lake was presented, providing insight into completing METT datasheets. Over two days, site managers worked in state-specific groups to prepare draft METTs for their Ramsar Sites.
Fifteen draft METTs were available by the end of the workshop. While presenting the draft METTs, the site managers highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of their management planning and outlined steps for improvement. The workshop concluded with the states agreeing to produce pilot METT assessments for their Ramsar Sites.
A publication ‘Wetland Wise Use: An Implementation Framework‘ was also released during the workshop.
