The 17th Annual General Body Meeting of Wetlands International South Asia was successfully held on September 26, 2024, at the conference hall of NSIC Business Park, New Delhi bringing together members and key representatives to review the past year’s activities, achievements, and future objectives.

The meeting was presided over by the President of Wetlands International South Asia, Dr Sidharth Kaul, with the agenda focusing on organizational growth, financial reports, project updates, and upcoming strategic initiatives. The in-person meeting provided an opportunity for key stakeholders to convene, discuss, and approve the annual report for the year 2023-2024 and review the audit report. Some of the invited members also joined virtually.

An overview of the major activities and programs undertaken in the past year was presented. These included establishing guidelines for wetland conservation, developing training programs for wetland managers, and initiating management planning for key sites all aimed at advancing the organization’s mission.

The board emphasized the need to focus on small wetlands and evaluate climate risks to Indian wetlands. The work done by the organization on six priority themes namely strengthening integrated wetlands management, rejuvenating wetlands for water security, wetlands as NbS for disaster risk reduction, nurturing wetlands livelihoods, conserving wetlands biodiversity, and safeguarding wetland carbon was presented. The members appreciated increasing efforts on resource development. Members reviewed the milestones achieved and explored ways to enhance project impact.

The strategic goals for the next year were outlined and attending members shared insights on potential challenges and opportunities in the current landscape. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the organization’s commitment to its core values and goals. The next steps involve implementing the discussed plans to further strengthen our efforts in the upcoming year.
