Prof. K.V. Jayakumar, was working as an Emeritus Professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal till April 2023. Prior to this, he was Professor (Higher Administrative Grade – HAG) of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal where he has been working since 1993.

He had held various responsibilities at NIT Warangal like the Advisor to the Director – Special Programmes, nominated member of the Board of Governors and the Finance Committee of the institute, coordinator of GIAN (Global Initiative for Academic Network) and SPARC (Scheme for Promotion Academic and Research Collaboration) etc. He has held various academic and administrative responsibilities in the institute including Dean (Planning & Development), Dean (International Relations & Alumni Affairs), Head of the Department etc Between July 2008 and December 2011, he was on deputation as the Executive Director of the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode, Kerala. During 2010 – 2011, he held full additional charge of Director, Centre for Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development (C-STED) of the Government of Kerala, and Kerala School of Mathematics. He had visiting assignments at the University of Essen Germany, Griffith University Brisbane, Australia, and the University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka. He has had research and teaching experience also at KREC Surathkal, Centre for Water Resources, Anna University, Chennai and IIT Kanpur. He was honoured by NITK Surathkal with the Distinguished Alumnus Award during the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the institute. He was also awarded the Prof Rangaraju Award for Excellence in Water Resources Research during April, 2019.

Prof. Jayakumar has over 120 publications in national and international journals / conference proceedings and has delivered keynote addresses at many renowned conferences at national and international levels. He had the honour of delivering the 18th International Hydrological Decade Endowment Lecture during February, 2018. The earlier speakers include Prof Ven Te Chow, Prof S Ramaseshan, Prof Roberto Lenton, and Dr M S Swaminathan etc. He has been a nominated member of the Academic Council of National Resource Centre, based at NITTTR, Bhopal. He is a member of the panel of experts identified by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India for evaluation of BRICS R&D projects. His recent significant assignments include: Member of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), the apex institute under the Ministry of Jalsakthi, member of the Governing Body of the Wetlands International South Asia (WISA), Lead, Technical Evaluation Committee, India – Spain Collaborative Industrial Research & Development Programme, Chairman/Senior Evaluator for National Board of Accreditation (NBA), Member of the Expert Panel of the International Division of the DST constituted to evaluate India-Canada project proposals, Member of the Steering Committee of the Centre of Excellence in Water-related Disaster Management in Kerala established at CWRDM Kozhikode, Advisor, International Council for Circular Economy, Expert Member of Indian National Committee on Groundwater (INCGW), Chairman of PG Cluster of APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University, Expert member of State Steering Committee for preparation of State Specific Action Plan for Water Sector in Telangana, Member of the Core Group of Technology Development and Transfer of DST, National Task force for revamping WALMIs, Consultative Committee member of Pollution Control Board of Kerala, Indian Naval Academy, Expert member for Stormwater management for Utility Infrastructure for Andhra Pradesh, Member of Research Council of NATPAC, Trivandrum and expert member of Lake Protection Committee for the Warangal region.

He is also a subject expert at the Union Public Service Commission and various other State Public Service Commissions. He was elected as the first country coordinator of the India Water Partnership during the meeting of the CAPNET-India held at Bangalore in the year 2004. Prof. Jayakumar is a member /fellow of many national and international professional bodies. Prof. Jayakumar reads writes speaks besides English, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and has elementary working knowledge in German, French and Russian.
