Dr Sara Ahmed is an Adjunct Professor at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune and the Founder of the Living Waters Museum.

A PhD in Environmental Sociology and an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, Dr Ahmed was the Senior Program Specialist with Canada’s International Development Research Centre’s Agriculture and Environment programmes in Asia. She was faculty at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand, and Ahmedabad University before joining IISER-Pune. She has worked on the political economy of water in India for over two decades with a strong focus on gender, equity and governance. In 2017, Dr Ahmed launched the Living Waters Museum, a virtual repository visualising narratives on our water heritage, built, natural and cultural using storytelling and digital tools. The virtual museum is a member of the Global Network of Water Museums endorsed by UNESCO-IHP as a special initiative towards SDG 6. Dr Ahmed serves on the board of the global network as well as the boards of WaterAid India and several NGOs in Gujarat working on water and livelihoods.
