The Compendium of Sustainable Land Management Practices has been released by Shri Bhupender Yadav, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change at the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun on May 20, 2023, in the presence of Shri CP Goyal, DGF & SS, DG, ICFRE to provide insights and guidance for achieving sustainable land management practices.
The compendium includes a chapter on “Restoring and Sustainably Managing Indian Wetlands”, authored by Arghya Chakrabarty, Technical Officer – Biodiversity and Dr Ritesh Kumar, Director, Wetlands International South Asia, wherein they discussed the need for restoring wetland ecosystems, the policy environment around it, and wetland conservation efforts and lessons learnt in terms of restoring natural wetlands, urban wetlands, mangroves, and ponds. They also stressed future priorities and the need to scale up the restoration processes.
