World Otter Day strives to increase public understanding of otters and encourage their conservation. It takes place every year on the last Wednesday in May (this year, May 31), and it includes activities and events that emphasise the value of otters to our ecosystem and the threats they face.
Dr Asghar Nawab, Programme Head – Aquatic Ecology with Wetlands International South Asia talks with a leading Indian Newspaper and explains the reasons for otter population being isolated and confined to small areas making them more vulnerable to anthropogenic and other stochastic disturbances.
