The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change organised a workshop on ‘Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) for Indian Wetlands’ in collaboration with Wetlands International South Asia and GIZ from January 9-10,2025 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The workshop aimed to familiarise the Ramsar Site managers from Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha with the application of ‘METT for Indian Wetlands’ for adaptive management planning. The workshop, attended by 40 participants, provided a comprehensive introduction to METT and its implementation process. A case study on Pong Dam Lake was presented, providing insight into completing METT datasheets. Over two days, site managers worked in state-specific groups to prepare draft METTs for their Ramsar Sites. Twenty draft METTs were available by the end of the workshop. While presenting the draft METTs, the site managers highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of their management planning and outlined steps for improvement. The workshop concluded with the states agreeing to produce pilot METT assessments for their Ramsar Sites within two weeks.
