Conversations about enhancing the network and tackling threats to wetlands

The Wetland Authority of Delhi, Government of NCT of Delhi organized a workshop on the sensitization of Wetland Mitras on April 6, 2024. The workshop was chaired by Dr Suneesh Buxy, Member Secretary of the Wetland Authority of Delhi. Shri Ramveer Tanwar, popularly known as the Pond Man of India, also gave a presentation where he emphasized the efforts of Say Earth, a non-governmental organization, in the restoration of numerous urban ponds across India. The workshop witnessed the participation of Wetland Mitras from various professional backgrounds and age groups, showcasing the collaborative endeavors in wetland conservation.

Arghya Chakrabarty, Technical Officer at Wetlands International South Asia, delivered a presentation on the capacity building of Wetland Mitras. During his presentation, Arghya emphasized the importance of the involvement of Wetland Mitras in wetland management and the Asian Waterbird Census (AWC). Arghya emphasized the need for Wetland Mitras to identify wetlands in their neighboring areas and recognize the existing threats to join forces with the Delhi Wetland Authority and contribute to the revival and restoration of these wetlands. Additionally, Arghya proposed a collaborative approach to water quality monitoring of wetlands, with the participation of Wetland Mitras, emphasizing their crucial role in this process.
