2nd February of each year is observed as World Wetlands Day to mark the date of adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The World Wetlands Day theme for 2022 is ‘Wetlands Action for People and Nature’. This theme presses on the urgent need to take affirmative actions for wetlands by investing financial, human and political capital to save the world’s wetlands from disappearing and restore those that have been degraded.
To mark this occasion, Wetlands International South Asia is organising a virtual plenary discussion on issues surrounding ‘Wetlands Action for People and Nature’ in South Asia region. Padma Bhushan Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder, Sulabh International Social Service Organisation and a globally renowned Indian sociologist and social entrepreneur will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
