Empowering Tomorrow’s Guardians
A workshop on “Conserving Wetlands for Managing Water Risks” was organized for DPS RK Puram by Wetlands International South Asia in collaboration with India Water Partnership. The workshop, held on April 25, 2024, aimed to sensitize class VIII students about the crucial role of wetlands in the water cycle, how water and landscapes shape wetlands and their functions, and the impacts of wetland degradation on water security and conservation. The event saw active participation from 440 students and 14 teachers.
The 8th-grade students moderated the presentation session. Diana Datta, Programme Associate at IMWBES, and Dayadra Mandal, Junior Technical Officer in Water Management, elucidated the vital role wetlands play in the water cycle. They also emphasized how water and landscape influence the formation and functions of wetlands.

The session covered the importance of wetlands in mitigating water-related risks, including floods and droughts, and how their conservation contributes to sustainable water management. We aimed to raise awareness among students about the crucial role wetlands will play in preserving vital ecosystems and ensuring water security for the future through interactive discussions, visual aids, and a case study of Bangalore City, where the disappearance of wetlands has been a significant concern.
