The Uttar Pradesh State Wetlands Authority was constituted as per provisions of the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017 as the nodal policy and regulatory institution within the state.

The Authority held a two-day workshop on November 29-30, 2018 at Lucknow to sensitise the officers of the forest department on the various dimensions of wetlands management.

Wetlands International South Asia assisted the authority in delivering the workshop and conducted sessions on wetlands management planning, monitoring and governance. Dr Ajit Pattnaik (Vice President) and Dr Ritesh Kumar (Conservation Programme Manager) were invited as technical experts to deliver the sessions. Based on the recommendations, systematic prioritisation of wetlands and management planning would be taken up by the state government.
