Wetlands International South Asia and Bihar State Wetlands Authority (BSWA) tested the climate change adaptation and DRR co-benefit tool for Kabartal Wetland on 10th September 2024 at Patna.

The tool is a part of the project titled “Developing a methodology for assessment of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction benefit of wetland management”. It is being piloted for four types of wetlands: coastal, high altitude, urban, and floodplain. Kabartal Wetland is chosen as a pilot site for its ability to buffer floods and droughts. Identifying and quantifying Kabartals’ adaptation benefits will help build an evidence base to support its management and conservation and enhance planning, aid decision-making, and leverage climate finance for its management.

The discussion highlighted the tool’s benefits in planning and implementing the management plan for Kabartal. Wetlands International South Asia staff also visited Kabartal Wetland to understand the hydrology and topography and assess its ability to buffer hazards like fluvial floods and droughts.
