A capacity-building training programme from 1st December to 3rd December 2025 at Kargil district for the ground and technical staff of the Department of Wildlife Protection, Kargil, which was organised by Wetlands International South Asia, in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife Protection and State Wetland Authority, UT of Ladakh. The training was aimed at strengthening field-level capacities for systematic data collection to support the preparation of brief documents for wetlands in Kargil District, beginning with Horai Tso and Rangtse Tso.

The programme included hands-on training and field demonstration on wetland bathymetric surveys, water quality assessment, wetland biodiversity, and other health indicators. Despite adverse field conditions and high-altitude weather, frontline staff demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to acquiring these skills.

The training will facilitate the collection of robust data on various wetland features for the development of brief documents, health cards, and monitoring datasets of key wetlands in the Kargil region of Ladakh.
