Wetlands International South Asia is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to conservation and
wise use of wetlands in South Asia region. Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Consultant for Documenting Best Practices in Wetlands Conservation and Management in India.

Consultant Purpose

The incumbent for this position shall assist in the implementation of the Integrated Management of Wetland Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IMWBES) Project. The IMWBES Project is a Full-Scale, five-year, Global Environment Facility-funded project of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the United Nations Environment Programme as the GEF Agency. Wetlands International South Asia serves as the Lead Technical Support Agency (LTSA) for the project, providing technical support to its implementation. The role of the consultant is to produce a comprehensive compendium of best practices in wetlands conservation and management. The consultant will be entrusted with gathering, verifying, and documenting relevant information for each identified case study. The scope of work will include:

Roles and responsibilities

  • Identification of suitable case studies representing a diversity of ecological zones, wetland types, and governance frameworks. 
  • Conduct desk-based reviews, engage with key stakeholders, and undertake field visits where necessary to gather authentic and detailed information.
  • Each case study will be documented using a standardised format, including the theme of the intervention (e.g., hydrological restoration, community-based conservation, pollution control, biodiversity enhancement, or sustainable tourism)

The consultancy will be undertaken over a period of three months during which the consultant is expected to adhere to a mutually agreed timeline and maintain regular communication with the designated authority. 

All data, content, and outputs generated during the course of this consultancy shall be the intellectual property of Wetlands International South Asia and must not be shared or used for any other purpose without prior written consent. The consultant will be expected to maintain confidentiality regarding all information gathered during the assignment.

Essential Qualifications  

  • Masters degree in ecology, natural resources management, hydrology, water management, environmental sciences, environmental planning and related disciplines.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in wetlands or ecosystem management, with proven expertise in documentation, case study development, and report writing.
  • Familiarity with wetlands governance, conservation frameworks, and relevant initiatives in India is essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Proven technical writing skills in English, Hindi or other Vernacular languages

Remuneration

The consultant will receive a gross remuneration of Rs. 80,000 per month for three months.
