Wetlands International South Asia office seeks a Technical officer-Integrated Water Resources Management to support the development of the organization’s portfolio on water management for wetlands conservation.

This is a full-time position based in New Delhi.

Job Purpose

The incumbent will coordinate the implementation of IKI project titled “Mainstreaming ecosystem service and climate risks in integrated wetlands management planning” and other projects and initiatives of Wetlands International South Asia. Work shall also include the development of concept notes and project ideas related to wetlands management. Good knowledge of wetlands hydrology, biodiversity and socio-economics essential. Key responsibilities include liaising with stakeholders, conducting capacity development and outreach programmes, and supporting resource development.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation of project-related activities
  • Conduct periodic monitoring visits to the demonstration sites and assess progress of the implementation of integrated management plans
  • Maintain an overview of the development and use of various tools, knowledge products, capacity building and outreach programmes
  • Support the development of concept notes and ideas related to wetlands and water management.
  • Develop the capacity of wetlands managers and stakeholders in assessing the role of wetlands in water management, and integrating wetlands in water resources planning and decision-making
  • Coordinate preparation, implementation and monitoring of project operational plans and activities in cooperation with implementing partner organizations and stakeholder
  • Support policy and advocacy on issues related to wetlands, water management and climate change
  • Support communications and outreach on issues related to wetlands, water management and climate change
  • Prepare scientific and technical reports when required

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications

  • M.Tech or Equivalent degree in civil engineering/hydrology/forestry/water resource management/ planning or related disciplines
  • Minimum four years’ experience in handling water management projects, especially related to assessments of wetlands
  • Experience in capacity development on integrated wetlands and water resources management

Desirable qualifications

  • Knowledge of hydrological and ecological modelling using GIS and other tools
  • Understanding of existing policy environment and regulations on water and wetlands
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple projects of strategic importance to wetlands management
  • Experience in surveying rivers and wetlands
  • Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages including the ability to translate complex issues into concise and clear messages.

 

Remuneration

The incumbent will be placed in Grade 4 of the salary scale, with an annual gross remuneration of Rs. 8.5 lakhs with all perks.

Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Wetland Specialist for The Integrated Management of Wetland Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Project. This is a full-time position based in New Delhi.

Job Purpose

The Integrated Management of Wetland Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IMWBES) Project is a Full-Scale, five year, Global Environment Facility funded project of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and United National Environment Programme as the GEF Agency. The IMWBES project has a goal of “conservation and wise use of wetlands for sustained provision of their full range of ecosystem services and maintenance of biological diversity.”

The project objective is to “enhance management effectiveness of wetlands of national and global significance and integration in developmental programming”. Wetlands International South Asia as the Lead Technical Support Agency (LTSA) of the project is anchoring the Project Management Unit (PMU) and providing technical backstopping to project implementation.

The Wetland Specialist for the IMWBES Project is a full-time position and will be based in New Delhi. Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as a technical focal point for matters related to project
  • Conduct periodic monitoring visits to the demonstration sites and assess progress of the implementation of integrated management plans
  • Maintain an overview of the development and use of various tools, knowledge products, capacity building and outreach programmes
  • Provide technical support to the MoEFCC in the implementation of the National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems
  • Support preparation of technical reports to be submitted to NPD and UNEP.

 

Essential Qualifications  

  • Masters degree in ecology, natural resources management, hydrology, water management, environmental sciences, environmental planning and related disciplines.
  • Experience in conducting field assessments and data analysis for preparing technical reports
  • At least four years experience in handling similar assignments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages including ability to translate complex issues into concise and clear messages.
  • Proficiency in MS Office

Desirable qualifications

  • PhD on a topic related to wetlands
  • Experience of survey and assessment of wetlands
  • Understanding of GIS and mapping tools
  • Experience of working on wetlands, with focus on aspects such as; aquatic ecology, hydrology, limnology, socio-economic, and policy for conservation and management

Remuneration

The incumbent will be placed in Grade 4 of the salary scale, with an annual gross remuneration of Rs. 9 lakhs with all perks.

Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Account Assistant. This is a full-time position based in New Delhi. 

Overall Job Purpose

The Account Assistant will be responsible for all day-to-day financial operations and book keeping. The position will be based in New Delhi and may require travel to project sites. Specific duties include:

  • Prepare vouchers and ensure approval and payment after permission of the competent authority.
  • Maintain books of account and prepare reconciliation statements.
  • Prepare TDS, EPF and GST returns
  • Support annual and internal audits as per approved Terms of Reference.
  • Prepare project financial reports as per approved guidelines in consultation with Head of Finance.
  • Maintain asset registers.
  • Prepare and monitor partner contracts.
  • Co-ordinate logistical arrangements for workshops, conferences and other events of the organisation under the guidance of finance officer.

 

Academic Qualifications

  • B.Com (Hons) (essential) and M.Com.(desirable)

 

Experience

  • Proficiency in working on spreadsheets
  • Proficiency in working on Tally Prime Software
  • Atleast 2 years of work experience in financial accounting and book keeping
  • Conversant with provisions of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, Direct and Indirect Taxation Act and Rules, Income Tax Act and Rules and other laws and regulation pertaining to administration of non-profit organization
  • Proficiency of working on TDS and GST Software

Remuneration

The organization is establishing a regional office for Coasts and Deltas, with the ambition of: a) providing the necessary science and knowledgebase for the conservation and sustainable management of coastal wetlands, b) capacity development of wetlands managers and stakeholders on the management needs of coastal wetlands, c) building sector partnerships for conservation of coastal wetlands in sector plans and programs, d) catalyzing investments for conservation, restoration and integrated management of coastal wetlands, and e) fostering a CEPA programme to promote stakeholder participation in wetlands conservation and wise use.

Wetlands International South Asia office seeks a Senior Technical officer – Coasts and Deltas to lead the Coasts and Deltas regional office and support the implementation of projects and initiatives related to coastal wetlands.

The incumbent will be based in Chennai, and report to the Director. The appointment will initially be for two years with a possibility of extension based on performance review.

Job Purpose

The incumbent is intended to develop and manage the implementation of projects in the Coast and Island region of India, to develop relevant and innovative knowledge products and tools, and advocate for wetland solutions towards key stakeholders. Work shall also include the development of concept notes and project proposals to generate finances for running the coastal programme. Key responsibilities include maintaining an overview of the coastal landscape, liaising with stakeholders, conducting capacity development and outreach programmes, supporting resource development and being responsible for the regional office.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning, resource development and coordination for implementation of specific programmes/ strategies, including programme and project management
  • Project cycle management and knowledge development which includes technical and financial implementation and reporting of projects in the coastal region
  • Run collaborative processes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop knowledge products and tools to strengthen the strategic communication of project outcomes
  • Monitor and identify relevant (environmental, social) issues and trends and translate these into opportunities for the organization and running projects
  • Identify opportunities for resources and project development and takes a leading role in project proposal teams
  • Pro-actively and timely communicate with the donor including sharing successes and lessons
  • Pro-actively seek and develops new strategic partnerships
  • Represent Wetlands International South Asia in relevant meetings, workshops, training and forums

  • At least five years’ experience in designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple projects of strategic importance, including supervising multidisciplinary team and coordinating the work of partners while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrable track record of fundraising and managing partnerships.

The organization is establishing a regional office for Hindu-Kush Himalayan Wetlands with the ambition of: a) providing the necessary science and knowledgebase for the conservation and sustainable management of Himalayan wetlands (with a specific focus on High-Altitude Wetlands), b) capacity development of wetlands managers and stakeholders on the management needs of Himalayan high altitude wetlands, c) building sector partnerships for conservation of Himalayan wetlands in sector plans and programs, d) catalysing investments for conservation, restoration and integrated management of Himalayan high altitude wetlands, and e) fostering a CEPA programme to promote stakeholder participation in wetlands conservation and wise use. This office will also focus on enhancing the visibility of Wetlands International South Asia’s work in the Himalayan region, and help establish a work programme, working in partnership with state governments and agencies, civil society organizations and research and academic organizations, for the conservation of wetlands in this region, with a special focus on high-altitude wetlands.

Wetlands International South Asia office seeks a Senior Technical Officer – Hindu Kush Himalayan Wetlands to lead the Hindu-Kush Himalayan regional office and support the implementation of projects and initiatives related to Himalayan wetlands.

The incumbent will be based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand (or any area suited for work in Himalayan Wetlands, especially high-altitude wetlands) after an initial six months of training and programme development work in New Delhi. Frequent travel in the Hindu-Kush Himalayan Region will be needed for the delivery of the work programme. The incumbent will report to the Director. The appointment will initially be for two years with a possibility of extension based on performance review.
