A field mission to Renuka Wetland and Pong Dam Lake in Himachal Pradesh was carried out from 19th to 22nd October 2021 by experts from GIZ and Wetlands International South Asia, with latter providing technical support.

The primary agenda was to hold a review and reflection meeting on the soil and water conservation plan and monitoring hydrological regimes with the assessment agency, People’s Science Institute, Dehradun and the site managers of Renuka Wetland and Pong Dam Lake Ramsar site.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Colleagues from GIZ and Wetlands International South Asia with Forest department Himachal Pradesh and experts from People’s Science Institute

Activities included site visit to the wetland and specific areas in the catchment influencing the wetland character. Renuka Wetland was vibrant and lush with its post monsoon vegetation cover with a number of resident and migratory species like the Mahseer, Common coot, Common moorhen, Greater egret, Greater yellownape, Greater flameback, Indian grey hornbill, Joro spider, Asiatic black bear, Rhesus monkey, Sambhar deer, Indian Langur, Reeve’s muntjac, etc.
