To mark World Wetlands Day 2025, the Wetlands Learning Center of Harihardev Bidyapitha School, in collaboration with Wetlands International, hosted a special event on 4th February 2025. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of nearly 80 students of Class 9, along with teachers and the Pallishree team.
The program commenced with a ceremonial lamp-lighting by the school principal, setting an auspicious and inspiring tone for the day. This was followed by a welcome address and an insightful speech by the principal, Ms Itishree Jena, emphasising the importance of wetlands and the role students can play in their conservation.
Mr Dhabaleswar Mali, Asst. teacher delivered an inspiring talk, urging students to develop an understanding of wetland ecosystems and take responsibility for their protection. Following this, Mr Jitendriya Naik from Pallishree addressed the students, highlighting the numerous environmental and societal benefits of wetlands.
Excitement built as the winners of a poster-making and debate competition held earlier in the week were announced. The student’s creativity and passion for wetlands shone through and three students were also honoured for their remarkable models of wetland ecosystems.
The event continued with a fun and interactive quiz competition, where students tested their knowledge of wetlands in a spirited yet friendly atmosphere. The day concluded with students taking a pledge to protect wetlands, leaving with a greater understanding of their environmental significance.
