On August 15, 2018, Wetlands International South Asia celebrated India’s 72nd Independence Day.

Dr Sidharth Kaul unfurling the national flag

A flag unfurling ceremony was held at the office in presence of the Wetlands International South Asia Society President Dr Sidharth Kaul, Conservation Programme Manager, Dr Ritesh Kumar and the office staff. Dr. Kaul called for a more proactive approach to addressing wetlands conservation, considering the rapid increase and changing dynamics of development. As an organisation dedicated to wetland conservation in India and the neighboring South Asian countries for nearly 25 years, there is potential to create a common platform for collaborating with regions sharing similar wetland characteristics and issues. Wetlands International South Asia and its partnership with fellow organisations, various national and state government agencies and dedicated working staff strives to bring wetland conservation in the forefront of developmental issues. Marking India’s Independence Day, the organisation sets foot to move towards working in a wider spectrum of wetland issues in South Asia.
