To sensitise the frontline staff of the Forest department together with the civil society members at Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, Wetlands International South Asia (WISA) held an expert session on the Importance of Wetlands. Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary on the Southern Delhi Ridge of Aravalli hill range on Delhi-Haryana border lies in Southern Delhi as well as northern parts of Faridabad and Gurugram districts of Haryana state.

Team WISA conducted the expert session as a part of World Wildlife Week celebration. The aim of the session was to sensitize frontline staff of forest department and civil society members orienting them on the diversity of Indian wetlands, their ecosystem services, biodiversity values, threats, management needs and ways in which conservation and wise use of these ecosystems can be ensured through community and stakeholder participation.

The session was chaired by Mr Vishal Singh (IFS) and had active participation from the frontline forest staff, bird enthusiasts and nature enthusiasts. A nature walk followed the session to understand the wetlands present in the landscape and to discuss how conservation and restoration measures could be further taken up.
